University of Milan Bicocca
Igor Costarelli is a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Sociology and Social Research of the University of Milan Bicocca and a former visiting scholar at the Department of Urbanism of the Delft University of Technology and the LAB’URBA of the University Paris-Est Créteil.
His main research interests focus on the relationship between housing systems and European urban societies in a comparative perspective with particular attention to the role of housing in urban segregation dynamics and regeneration of deprived neighborhoods, social mix policies, housing issues for young people, and collaborative housing. On these topics, he lectured in both bachelor’s and master’s degree courses as well as in doctoral programs and professional training courses at the Department of Sociology and Social Research of the University of Milan Bicocca.
His research has been published in both Italian and international scientific journals, including Cities, Housing Studies, Journal of Housing and the Built Environment, Journal of Urban Affairs. He served as a national expert for Italy in the project Housing policies in the European Union promoted by the German federal government and as an evaluator in the project Milano 2035 – Coalizione per l’abitare giovanile in the framework of the program Welfare in Azione by Fondazione Cariplo.
He is a coordinator of the Housing and Young People working group at the European Network for Housing Research.
