GSSI Gran Sasso Science Institute
Giulia Urso is currently a tenured Assistant Professor of Economic Geography at the Gran Sasso Science Institute (GSSI) in L’Aquila.
She holds a Ph.D. in Historical, geographical and international relations studies (field: Landscape, Environment and Territory between management of local resources and integration processes – Geography) from the University of Salento.
She was Adjunct Professor at the Faculty of Educational, Political and Social Sciences of the University of Salento and visiting Professor at the Department of Geography of Ghent University in 2014. Since 2018 she is Co-Convenor of the Course “Economic Geography” and member of the Teaching Committee of the Doctoral Program “Urban Studies and Regional Science” of the Gran Sasso Science Institute.
She participated in national and EU projects dealing with sustainable tourism and enhancement of cultural heritage. She is currently involved in several multidisciplinary research projects dealing with the place-sensitiveness of public policies, migration propensity of peripheral youth, migration-climate change nexus in inner areas, perception of inequality, and pro-environmental behaviours.
Her main research interests revolve around urban-rural interactions, local development and resilience of inner/peripheral areas.
